Sir Michael Marmot
Sir Professor Michael Marmot is a Professor of Epidemiology at University College London and Director of the University College London Institute of Health Equity. His work on the health consequences of social injustice and inequality has been seminal, and led evidence-based community interventions, including World Health Organization’s and National Health Service (UK) programs and recommendations. Sir Professor Marmot is an author of two widely acclaimed books: “Status Syndrome: how your place on the social gradient directly affects your health” (2004) and “The Health Gap: the challenge of an unequal world” (2015). Sir Professor Marmot was awarded honorary doctorates from 18 universities. In 2021 he was honored by the British Medical Journal’s Outstanding Contribution to Health award.
